You might have questions, this page is dedicated to common questions families might have. But if you have further questions please reach out and I can help answer them for you.
What is Midwifery Care?
It is a different standard of care. Midwifery Care focuses on placing the family at the center. One of it's strengths is providing evidence based information and educating families so that they feel empowered to make the decisions that are best for their family. It is unbiased care, heart driven, basing care on the fact that we are all individuals.
What is the role of a midwife?
The role of the midwife is many things. It often feels like I wear many hats. One of my jobs is to witness you and your birth, to protect it, and to make sure you and baby are safe. To support your autonomy by giving information that allows you to make your own choices and feel supported in that. To walk with you through this crazy vulnerable journey. To hold you in the wild turns of birth and walk with you even if it becomes hard.
Why hire a midwife?
I truly believe that Midwifery care and access to Midwives could change the world. This model of care and the individualized care alone could shift women's health. The biggest difference is the connection and place it holds in our hearts. You matter to us. You are more than just a statistic in a system.
Do you take insurance?
I currently do not take insurance but you can work with and bill your insurance for all lab work done and ultrasounds done throughout pregnancy. Also if you are working with a medishare plan, I can provide information given in the form of a super bill so that those types of companies can cover expenses. Also to help cut down costs see the pricing page for payment options.
Who can have a Homebirth?
Midwifery Care in out of hospital settings is intended for low risks pregnancies. There are criteria and protocol that is established to keep every mom and baby safe. Part of prenatal care is watching and making sure that we are continuing with a low risk pregnancy.
How many clients do you take every month?
I am currently taking 3-5 families per month.
How often will I have visits
You will have visits in my office in downtown Johnson City where you are seen monthly until 28 weeks, then twice monthly until 36 weeks and weekly until birth. You are seen several times postpartum up until 6 weeks. The 36 week visit will be in your home where we can make sure you have everything needed for birth at your house.
How much does it cost?
We have a several financial options available. I have always wanted to offer a sliding system payment option, because midwifery care should be accessible to everyone regardless of where you are financially. See our pricing page for all the payment options.
